In early 1944, Aviation Radioman Third Class Joseph Bauer was a gunner with VB-7 which
was at the time working up for deployment at NAS Wildwood, NJ. On February 5th, 1944,
ARM3 Bauer and his pilot, Ensign Ernest H. Rosenau, were both killed when their
Curtiss SB2C Helldiver crashed into Delaware Bay during a training flight.

Here's an SB2C-3 Helldiver from Bombing Squadron 7, Joseph Bauer's outfit. This is the type of aircraft
in which he was flying on the day he was killed, though his was likely an earlier variant, the SB2C-1.
